Working in the turf industry, employees are required to work:
outdoors
with dangerous equipment
often as part of a small group
and often in a location remote from a central base.
It is important that all employees are trained in first aid and that a first aid kit and walkie-talkie are taken to any remote worksite. The opportunity to upgrade first aid qualifications should be provided bi-annually.
Comprehensive first aid supplies should be readily available at the central workplace and emergency numbers clearly posted near telephones. Instructional posters on expired air resuscitation (EAR) and cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) should also be put up in prominent areas around the workplace.
