Finding the right angle
The 3-4-5 rule is used to measure right-angles and find perpendicular lines. This rule, also called Pythagoras's theorem, says that a triangle with sides that measure a ratio of 3:4:5 will be a right-angled triangle.
The sides of the triangle can be any length as long as they are in the ratio of 3:4:5. For example, a triangle with sides of 3 m, 4 m and 5 m, or a triangle with sides of 6 m, 8 m and 10 m. You can use this knowledge to measure right-angles when you are marking out squares or rectangles.
