How do I work out how much nutrient needs to be applied per square metre?
Establish what type of fertiliser you will need to use according to the turf requirements and check the nutrient analysis of the fertiliser. You'll find this on the fertiliser bag.
Then calculate how much of each actual nutrient you will be applying to the area.
For example: You choose a blended fertiliser with a nutrient analysis of 19.2.8. To achieve the desired application rate of 50 kg of actual nitrogen per hectare you will need to apply 263 kg of fertiliser per hectare.
But you are only watering 4000 square metres not 10000 square metres. So divide 263 by 10000 = 0.0263 kg per square metre.
0.0263 kg per square metre x 4000 square metres = 105.2 kg.
