Planning an experiment

Here is an example of a process for planning an experiment.

Design the test:

• Write down your initial ideas.
• Sort out your ideas.
• Create the procedures.

Carry out the trial:

• Perform the test according to your procedures.
• Record the data.

Collate and analyse results:

• Collect and collate the raw data.
• Change the raw data into statistics (eg: percentage, averages, graphs and comparisons).

Interpret results:

• Prove the results - does it support or refute the hypothesis?

Write a report:

• Describe the outcome.

Review the experiment:

• Look at how the test can be improved.
