How do I mark a level with a surveyor's peg?

There are generally three methods for marking a level using a surveyor's peg.

  1. The peg is driven into the ground so that the top of the peg is in line with the level required.

  2. The peg is taped with the bottom of the tape in line with the level required.

  3. The peg is taped with the top of the tape in line with the level required.

The method to be used should be determined at the very start of the construction job and remain consistent throughout. Do not switch from one method to another part-way through a job as this can lead to confusion and levels being up to 25 millimetres out.
