Field capacity and permanent wilting point

This interaction compares the field capacity and permanent wilting point of a:

• sandy soil

• loamy soil

• clay soil.

When an equal volume of rain falls on the three soils, sandy soil has the lowest field capacity and permanent wilting point, loamy soil has about double that of sandy and clay has the highest water holding capacity of the three soils, about double that of loamy soil.
